With foundations laid in 1652, today the Colleton Estate features a grand, two-storey, five-bedroom, plantation-style home and swimming pool.
In addition to the Great House, Colleton Estate includes a two-bedroom guest cottage two one bedroom apartments, and the historic coach house, presently being used as a private museum.
The house stands on seven acres of gardens and mahogany forest and is approached by a long driveway of shady trees providing complete privacy to the accommodation provided.
The property was opened to the public as a historic guest house in late 2017. The family who now own Colleton Great House have made significant upgrades to the property over the last couple of years, enabling the comfort and luxury expected in modern life, whilst maintaining all of the key historical features that guests expects.
The Great House is filled with beautiful artwork, Persian rugs, elegant furniture pieces and glassware from the 16th to 19th century, making your stay a unique experience.
The house was built by Sir John Colleton in the 1650s. Sir John was a sugar baron from England who headed up a group to which King Charles II gave North and South Carolina and all the land to the Pacific Ocean. Read more in the history section.
